LAAS PICKET WRAP UP! 1.23.10
All ADL-LA, along with the entire humane community wants, is for the City to hire someone who has the skills, the knowledge, the savvy to utilize the progressive, proven, lifesaving programs currently being used in PROGRESSIVE, NO-KILL humane societies and municipal shelters across the Country. Instead of picketing the Mayor and others to expose the NEEDLESS slaughter going on inside LAAS under Kathleen Davis and Linda Barth, ADL-LA would rally around the new GM and the Mayor, if a savvy, progressive and humane individual who is committed to implementing lifesaving No Kill programs is appointed. BUT UNTIL THEN. . . . .
Activists will hold the Mayor and others accountable to make sure that the process of recruiting a progressive, humane, No Kill GM is done in a transparent and progressive way. To this end, ADL-LA and other activists in the humane community picketed Mayor Villaraigosa's and his girlfriend, Lu Parker's mansion (a mansion which WE pay for) demanding that the Mayor FINALLY appoint the most progressive, humane, No Kill individual possible to be the next leader of LAAS. Activists leafleted the entire neighborhood educating them as to what the Mayor needs to do in order to make sure that the homeless and lost animals of Los Angeles get a progressive, humane, No Kill GM this time around.
Activists then went to Jim Bickhart's neighborhood to hold him accountable. Activists told Bickhart at the picket that THEY will be holding him accountable as well as the ENTIRE NATION who is WATCHING THIS SEARCH PROCESS UNFOLD. Because Bickhart lives on a narrow "walk street" in Venice, California TONS of neighbors heard our chants and came out to find out what was going on. Activists filled them ALL in on Jim Bickhart's history of catch-and-kill and unwillingness to do what's best for the lost and homeless animals of LA.
Activists explained to Bickhart's neighbors that the homeless and lost animals of LA deserve administrators who are truly progressive, humane and have committed themselves to implementing the No-Kill policies, programs, protocols and advertising techniques it will take to manage and oversee LAAS. LAAS needs a GM who will teach incompetents' like Kathleen Davis and Linda Barth how to implement No-Kill programs; and if they don't get on board, these two must be FIRED!
The ONLY neighbor who gave activists a problem (who in actuality got a lot more people to come out of their homes to hear what activists had to say,) was a neighbor who ran up to an activist and pulled his megaphone away from him throwing it on the ground. That led to a big "to-do" with lots of folks shouting at this assailant; all the better for the animals since Jim Bickhart needs to know that activists and now his NEIGHBORS will be holding him accountable.
